Justice Department Caught Lying Again; This Time, to the Supreme Court
The immigration policy that wasn’t
The Justice Department said recently that it “inadvertently” misled the Supreme Court in January 2009 by asserting that officials routinely “facilitate” the return of erroneously deported immigrants, but it said new procedures would now ensure that the government’s practices matched its earlier assertions.
If you do something inadvertent on your tax returns or your bankruptcy filing or some other business matter, the government quickly jumps to the conclusion you’re a criminal. But when the Department of Justice gets caught fibbing to the Supreme Court, it was just “inadvertent.”
